On December 13, 2022, residents approved a proposed $21.9 million capital project that will build a new transportation facility on the Ovid campus, make important drainage improvements around the Elementary School in Interlaken, upgrade both entryways, and create a new receiving area at the Middle-High School.
The plan makes use of New York State capital funds and our own capital reserve to ensure that the investment does not affect our stable local share of the school budget, meaning we will do this project with no added impact to school taxes.
Now that the project vote has passed, here is the timeline for completion of the project:
The district hosted a Public Information Session on Wednesday, November 30 at 6pm in the Elementary Auditorium in Interlaken to hear more about the proposal, and to get questions answered.
See the recording of the Information Session here, on our Board of Education YouTube page.

In October 2021, the Board of Education debated whether to use future capital project funds to continue making necessary repairs to the Bus Garage facility in Ovid, or to pursue the construction of a brand new facility. The Bus Garage serves as more than a transportation building for South Seneca-- it is where district packages are received, where some trainings take place, and where our Facilities Department operates and stores groundskeeping and snow removal equipment. This is the presentation given to the board at its July 2021 meeting, describing the history of the facility.
At the Oct 27, 2021 meeting, the Board of Education directed the planning of a facility replacement as part of the next large capital project. This page will continue to provide updates as the planning process continues.
